This page allows you to track me, or at the least, where my car is. The tracker on this page is using APRS, which is the Amature radio Automatic Position Reporting System. This system consists of a GPS reciever and a VHF radio which sends out the position reports at a regular interval (when I leave the system on), When moving it should send out a new position report every 2 min or so. When stationary with the system on, it will send out a new position every half hour. obviously when the radio is off it will not send any position information out. The entire system is quite compact and reliable. Now if you happen to have a well equipped station and are within a couple of miles of me, you will see each of these position updates, but how do you say does this information get to the web? There is a network of stations throughout the US that relay position reports that they hear to stations further away, and some of these stations relay the reports on to the internet, which is how you can see where I am here. Many thanks to Steve Dimse, who runs the http://www.findu.com server, which is how this data gets displayed on this page. The decentralized nature of how this works is also why you don't see every single update that my tracker puts out. So far I have been quite happy with how many actually do get through however. Be sure to click on the little car icon to see more information about when that position report came through. Happy Tracking! oh, and be sure to drop me a line and let me know you checked it out: ken{at}tz42.com.
